Pembalap yang mengikuti kompetisi CEV Moto2 itu ditunjuk oleh tim Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 sebagai pengganti Jorge Navarro yang mengalami cedera setelah terjatuh di Phillip Island.

Pembalap Indonesia terakhir yang turun di ajang Grand Prix, yaitu Doni Tata Pradita dan Rafid Topan Sucipto, yang tampil semusim penuh pada 2013, serta M. Fadli Immanuddin sebagai wild card di Sepang.
